the nature of jobs in the travel line
When we get stressed up over truckloads of work that we have left unfinished, we tend to chat to relieve some of the stress that we are facing. Normally, this group of us are always the latest ones to pack up and retreat to the comfort of our home. A colleague was pouring her woes to me today saying how she was working until 10.30pm at home, not making dinner for her two little ones and how her daughter gave up and ate nothing but biscuits. While saying that, she was crying. Argh, my heart felt a pinch for her. The dilemma of being a mother. Then, another colleague of mine who joined the company recently has been working from 8am - 8pm daily, even during the weekends. And just that day he told me how he wasn't able to pick up his elder daughter after school anymore because he couldn't leave the office on time. But the worst thing was, the younger daughter said to him that 'she doesn't have a father'. It's so heartbreaking. Imagine if my daughter saying that very sentence to me in the future, I think I wouldn't want to live anymore.
But anyway the bottomline is: If you want to work in the travel or hospitality industry, you will have to sacrifice your families to a certain extent. So, don't join this line if you are a homemaker unless you're planning to be single of course..
