ultimate unfairness

Perhaps I'm a little slow because the World Hunger Relief Week ended on 20th October. BUT, do you still see little donation boxes at the counters of restaurants such as KFC, Pizza Hut, Taco Bell, ...? If you do, please donate whatever spare cash you have for the people in Third World countries who are in dire need for food and water. And just in case you aren't convinced by that little 'Did You Know' box or you feel that this is just a fraud, let the picture below change your perception towards an unknown part of the world which is living in the darkness.

Some of you might have already seen this but for those who have not, let me enlighten you guys. This picture was taken by a photojournalist named Kevin Carter who decided to shorten his stay in South Africa to Sudan where civil wars and famine were prevalent then. There, he took this picture of a starving Sudanese girl who was desperately trying to make her way to a food relief camp whilst being stalked by a vulture. Fyi, vultures rarely attack healthy animals, but may kill the wounded or the sick. And so, the photojournalist chased away the vulture while the little girl continued the arduous journey towards the food relief camp. A few months after this photo won the Pulitzer Award, the photojournalist committed suicide having seen too many sufferings and no joy in life.

And it pains me to see that the other half of the world is worrying over children who are obese.

the fourth floor

The most hated storeys of all. Fourth floor. I've had pretty bad experiences with this level and I have this phobia of taking lifts. Alone. Unfortunately, of all levels in the building, this is the one which my office will be shifting to next week. We were initially doing fine at the third level and I find the office cosier, and more homely at where we were. Contrary to the old place, the new office at the fourth level has this deafening silence and unfriendly colleagues sitting right beside our super chatty department people. Such irony. On top of that, politics in the office are getting really crazy. And I kinda pity one of my colleagues who fell prey to it. I would really love to help her, but sad to say it's all not within my power. Anyway, I'll be really busy next month cos' I'm down for 5 railway station duties ($_$). So I shall apologise in advance for turning any of you down if you wanna meet me after my worktime.

The next thing I shall highlight, ohh! I finally got my pretty turquoise driving license, it came a few days ago via mail. I'm officially a driver now. Whee! And I drove my colleague home after a crazy day of shopping. Yeahh, hope there's more to come. (: I'll be looking forward to the day when I get a mini car of my own (cos' my dad's friend gave a little feedback and said that he couldn't see me on the driver's hotseat - I'm a tad too short for the current car). Dreaming for it..

I'm finally getting better.

the pre-halloween syndrome

Do you believe in horoscopes? I do to a certain extent, it really depends on my mood. But anyway, since we are in the month of the Scorpions, let's see how do Scorpio guys fare with my horoscope..

'Scorpio is dominant by nature, but Scorpio will have trouble keeping their Sagittarian partner under control. This freedom loving sign will surely bring out the worst in Scorpios nature. Mutual distrust is easy here. The Scorpion possessiveness will make life unbearable for Sagittarius. It is true that from the sexual standpoint, Scorpio is attractive to the Sagittarian lust, but thats where the compatibility ends. Not a recommended combination. -astrology.com'

Goodbye Scorpions.

I skipped work today and went to the doctor's. Can I skip the doctor part? Ahhhh, I guess you can't say no anyway. -fast forward- Little Miss Suet Yee asked me to accompany her to Borders at like 4pm, when I had to wolf down my 'bento'. And thankfully, we didn't spend 1 hour figuring out how to get to Borders from Orchard train station. I was pretty flabbergasted to find out that there exists someone who really suck at directions more than I am. *oops mind my language* Yes, I am not alone! Then together, we hunted for the grim book of original fairytales for over an hour and took some pictures in anticipation of the upcoming halloween..

They are the confused phantom and the fearsome vampire! These pictures were taken in a hurry cos' we were not supposed to put the masks on (the salespeople were all staring at us with their hawk-eyes, getting ready to devour us anytime). But I realised mine couldn't fit my head at all cos' the phantom-y mask was far too large. Oh well, I wasn't planning to buy it anyway. Have a great rainy night everyone~

beat-boxing

HAPPY 20TH BIRTHDAY FEN! I really hope you enjoyed that little sabotage on the stage in Acid Bar yesterday. -grins-

It's really a blessing for us when we reached there about an hour earlier than planned cos' we met this really good vocalist/beatboxer. His voice put me into a kinda sweet melancholic trance and it just makes me wonder what amazing sounds those little vocal folds neighbouring our oesophagus could do. You can listen to some of Stitch's beatboxing here. And out of my curiosity, I was searching for really good beatboxers when I found this performance. He was the judge for Singapore's Beatbox Championship so I guess he must be fabulous at it himself. Anyway, spend some time and immerse yourself into the world of snares, hi-hats, and bass from our very own voiceboxes!

like an old abandoned house

Wake up your idea. Classic. I have a hunch that this is the phrase commanders in National Service always uses to reprimand the recruits. Tell me if I'm right NS guys.

I was sitting on my bed, staring at nothing in particular, and not exactly thinking about anything cos' there were millions of thoughts running through my head like they're fighting to reach to an invisible finishing line. Lost count of them. I have no idea what's the matter with me nowadays. Maybe it's just the work, occupational hazards.. ahh. No I doubt so. God. I should just face up to my problems and untie the little knots in my head. In fact, I know what's wrong with me all along and the stuff which are causing my insomnia at night. I've been relying on my friends, entertainment, and novels to dispel my troubles. How could I make use of the people I love so much to walk away from it all? This feeling is like.. being slapped in the face without even knowing the reason. I wanna get through this ordeal. I should treat myself better. Love myself more.

Well, I never saw it coming
I should've started running
A long long time ago

it's not easy to be me

We were on our way home from Acid Bar when the hostile tongue of mine exclaimed how inconsiderate Jeff was after he comfortably propped his legs up on the chair in front of him. I was doing the same thing then and left him gaping at me thereafter. xD Talking about Acid Bar, if you are one who likes live band performances, this is definitely the place for you if you don't mind being sandwiched between hordes of people on well received nights.
I was on my way to meeting the much missed girlies in Esplanade for a Haagen Dazs treat by Fen, when I saw a Thailand traditional instrumental performance. It reminded me of that faithful 'Loy Krathong' day in Thailand and how my little cousin and I got sick halfway through watching the performance. Creepy. But I guess it's just the dirty food. =x Anyway, the 5 of us caught up with each others' lives and we were cross talking all the time (it's abit like a fish market when we are together). And after Haagen Dazs, we had Sakae Sushi. Not to mention, I've since become a 'renowned' glutton in the office.

To the friend who is feeling weak..
WHY DIDN'T YOU TELL US THAT YOU HAVE GOT DENGUE FEVER? But I'm so glad that you are on your way to recovery. Get your body up and going, then we shall comb for our favourite authors in the bookstores together alright! Love ya girl!

But it still sucks to not being able to fall asleep at night..

five tons off the shoulders, another five tons to go

I waited. For those pair of unwavering eyes to do the closure. I stepped out of the room with blood thudding in my ears. The room that makes me quiver and go all clammy on my palms. Except this time, with a smile as wide as the Valley of Panjsher on my lips.

BOO.

The Lakehouse in Cameron Highlands is OHHHHH SO PRETTY! Oh wait, I'm heading to Thailand and not to Malaysia. Ding dong. Drowning in one of my indulgences before I hit the sack. (:
